ART IN FELT
The Artistic Journey
People often don't understand the process of felting - sometimes even think it involves using traditional paint on pre-made, felted material - and so they are genuinely interested to see how the pieces they see framed and behind glass are made.
They enjoy having the opportunity to touch the art - part of its beauty is in its tactility - and are often surprised at the delicacy of the finished work as well as its strength.
During the Oxfordshire Artweeks exhibition I am looking forward to showing the wide range of colours I work with; the Merino wool tops, the Blue-faced Leicester curls, wool nepps and even silks, and how the fibres are carefully layered to create the final piece of art.
I will be demonstrating the process of wet-felting, and showing how in fact very little water, some bubble wrap and a good deal of rolling or 'agitating' is all that is needed to achieve the final result!
